Join Team Wicked Grounds for LeatherWalk 2025

First, a quick note: If you're not in the Bay Area, you can still support our efforts, so I've decided to send this letter out to everyone!

First, a quick introduction to the District

In 2018, after many years of effort (that many Wicked Grounds customers, staff, and ownership were part of), San Francisco established the worlds first Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District. Seven years later, the District has started to make a big difference not only in its SOMA area of San Francisco but well beyond, through its support of local kink, queer, and Leather businesses -- but by extension helping kinksters well beyond the Bay Area.

I consider the existence of the District to have had a huge impact on Wicked Grounds' ability to survive and thrive over the past several years. And: as someone who had a close a beloved brick-and-mortar space in the District's footprint, I feel very strongly about their mission in helping remaining brick-and-mortar businesses survive.

What is LeatherWalk?

LeatherWalk has existed in a few forms over the years. These days, it is being managed by the Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District.

For those who walk in person, it is a very fun afternoon of being proud and visible, and getting a great tour of some of the venues and businesses that make the District so fun. We'll start at City Hall and meander through several leather bars and kinky stores on our way to Leather Pride at Eagle Plaza. (If you're coming live, wear good shoes or boots!) If you are able to donate, awesome! Please do! Your funds support the kinky businesses and organizations in the District -- and by extension help us have spaces to keep doing classes in SF! If you cannot make a financial donation, you are still warmly encouraged to walk with us!

If you can't walk in person, you can still support the District by being part of the Wicked Grounds team!

You are always welcome to walk in our contingent whether or not you are in a position to donate. But if you can: do! The fact that the Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District exists is a big factor in our ability to provide kink education not only in the Bay Area but worldwide. If you've ever done anything with Wicked Grounds, you have benefited from the District's existence. If you can throw them a few bucks in our name, we'd sure appreciate it!

How to walk with us

We meet at City Hall in San Francisco about 10:30am. Mir runs chronically early for everything, so you'll probably see them a bit before that! Look for folks wearing Wicked Grounds shirts.

If you have a Wicked Grounds shirt, wear yours! If you want a Wicked Grounds shirt, there's an app for that!

About the walk

Bring Your Kink. Step Out. Give Back.
OUR STREETS. OUR STORY. OUR STRENGTH.

STAND TOGETHER - GEAR ON

Unity protects us. Walk with us from City Hall to Eagle Plaza to protect our leather, kink, and queer spaces. Enjoy entertainment, music, and refreshment stops along the way.

CELEBRATE COMMUNITY - STEP OUT

Join fellow leather, kink, & queer community members in our joyful celebration ending with a Leather Pride Flag raising: a symbol of visibility and resistance.

SUPPORT THE DISTRICT - GIVE BACK

Walkers are encouraged to fundraise or make a meaningful donation supporting the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District — We exist to ensure there is a lively and vibrant home for our community of events, businesses, bars & organizations in SOMA.

WALK YOUR WAY

Registration is free and open to all — fundraising is welcome, not required. Walk solo or with a team, and know that every step you take helps preserve the spaces, stories, and culture that keep our community thriving.

The day's agenda

LeatherWalk 2025 kicks off San Francisco's Leather Week on Sunday, September 21. We gather at City Hall at 10:30 AM before a couple rousing speakers at 10:45 AM when we’ll make some noise and step off at 11:00 AM for a fun and powerful walk through SOMA — stopping for entertainment and refreshments at beloved leather, kink, and queer venues along the way.

The walk ends at Eagle Plaza with the raising of the Leather Pride Flag during the SF Eagle’s Leather Pride Fest.

Funds raised go directly to support the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District, ensuring a vibrant, visible future for our community in SOMA. We walk to celebrate, to resist, and to protect the spaces that hold our history and our joy.
